What's inside the course
Basics & Beyond is built as the canonical entry point into Annie's curriculum. It covers the four building blocks of chart reading in the order most students need them:
- The ten planets — what each represents psychologically, what kind of energy it carries, and how to spot it in a chart.
- The twelve signs — as flavors rather than personality types. Aries energy, Taurus energy, etc.
- The twelve houses — life areas. Where things happen in your life.
- Major aspects — how planets relate to each other geometrically and what those relationships do.
By the end you should be able to pull up your own chart, identify what's there, and describe it in plain English. Not "do a professional reading" — but "I actually understand what I'm looking at." That's a much bigger jump than it sounds.
What's good
The order of operations. Annie teaches planets before signs before houses before aspects. This sounds obvious, but most online astrology content does the opposite — it jumps to interpretation and assumes you've absorbed the grammar somewhere along the way. The result is that most self-taught astrologers know what "Saturn in Scorpio in the 8th" supposedly means but can't tell you what Saturn actually represents on its own. Annie fixes this.
The teaching is grounded. She doesn't lean on "you'll attract abundance once you understand your North Node" energy. The lessons are more like a craft class than a workshop. You're learning a symbolic language.
Lifetime access actually matters here. Astrology compounds over years. You'll come back to "what does Mercury retrograde really do?" in 2027 and find your re-watch makes more sense the second time. Most $150 courses with hard-deadlined access force you to learn at the pace of someone else's launch calendar; Basics & Beyond doesn't.
The $150 price is the sweet spot. Cheap enough that it doesn't require a big commitment decision, expensive enough that you'll actually do the work. (Free YouTube playlists fail mostly because they cost nothing.)
Lowest-risk way to see if Annie's teaching style fits you. Self-paced, lifetime access, $150 one-time.
Enroll in Basics & Beyond →Where it falls short
1. Light on transit work. Basics & Beyond focuses on the natal chart. If you want to learn about transits, progressions, and timing — the "what's happening to me right now" part of astrology — you'll need to go further. Annie's certification track covers it; Basics doesn't.
2. No synastry / relationship astrology. Same gap. The course is built for "read your own chart," not "read the relationship between two charts." If your motivating question is "why does my Aries partner make me crazy," this won't fully answer it. (Most beginner courses skip synastry — Annie's not unusual here.)
3. Self-paced video means no live feedback. You can't ask Annie a question about your chart and get an answer. There's a Telegram student group with some peer discussion, but no one-on-one instructor access at this tier. If you need that, the certification program has more direct mentorship.
4. The marketing voice doesn't match the course voice. The Teachable landing page leans into "Educate ~ Elevate ~ Illuminate ~ Feed Your Mind, Fuel Your Soul, Live Your Purpose!" The actual lessons are way more grounded than that. We wish Annie would redo the landing page in the voice of her actual teaching. Disorienting on the way in.
5. No formal certificate at this tier. Basics & Beyond doesn't credential you as anything. It's a foundation course, not a credentialing program. If you want a certificate, that's the certification track ($1,788).
Who should buy it
- You've been Googling chart symbols for 6+ months and want to stop
- You've read a couple of astrology books and they didn't stick — you need structure
- You want to read your own natal chart by the end of the year
- You're considering eventually doing certification but want to test the teaching style first
- You don't yet know if astrology is a lifelong thing for you — $150 is low risk to find out
Who shouldn't
- You need a teacher for transits and timing specifically — wait for cert or look elsewhere
- You want live cohort accountability — self-paced won't work for you
- You're already at an intermediate level — Basics will be too foundational; jump to certification or specialty content
- You want a Hellenistic / traditional curriculum — wrong school
The honest bottom line
Basics & Beyond is the single most-recommended course we send OAP readers to. Not because it's perfect — see above — but because the $150 / lifetime / self-paced shape is the lowest-risk way to learn the foundations of a craft that compounds over years. The order Annie teaches in is right. The teaching tone is grounded. The exit ramps (into certification, into your own practice, or into "okay, this isn't for me, $150 is fine") are all clean.
If you've been on the fence about studying astrology seriously, this is the course we'd hand you.
